History Landhi Railway Station
Landhi Railway Station’s history could not be traced from authentic documents; however, it was a small station, and it was appropriately established in the 1930s, starting as a small, simple building serving a few local trains. By the 1950s, it expanded due to the industrial state boom to include waiting rooms, restrooms, and more facilities for travellers. A major renovation in the 1970s added a new line for the Korangi branch line for goods, a shuttle train for laborers, platforms, and ticket offices, modernizing the station further.
In the 1980s, Landhi Railway Station saw another significant expansion with additional platforms, a parking lot, cargo yards, and maintenance sheds. This growth made it one of the busiest railway stations in Karachi, serving both local and long-distance trains. It was also connected to the Karachi Circular Railway Korangi branch line, which helped transport workers from the industrial area, though this line is now defunct.
The station has witnessed critical historical events. In 1947, a tragic train accident killed over 200 people. In 1971, it was the site of a significant protest against the military regime of General Yahya Khan. The 1980s also saw the station hosting a considerable music festival featuring top Pakistani artists.

Issues at Landhi Railway Station
Landhi Railway Station faces several issues. There is no proper security, allowing local people and drug addicts to loiter on the platforms, leading to increased incidents of pickpocketing and theft. The provincial government has built a housing society nearby, but sewage water from the society is dumped into the railway premises, turning the station yard into a pond. Encroachments and contributions from residents worsen this problem. Additionally, there is no fencing around the yard, leading to excessive trespassing. The illegal Landhi Bachat Bazaar further aggravates the situation set up on railway land, which increases the trespassing and related issues.
Conclusion
Overall, Landhi Railway Station has evolved to provide a comfortable and secure travel experience, making it a convenient choice for both local and long-distance travelers
